Oakland Athletics

As one of the original teams in Major League Baseball, the Oakland Athletics team has had plenty of time to rack up a number of pennants and World Series Championship rings - and they have. The team, no matter if they were located in Oakland, California, Philadelphia, Kansas City has a long tradition of winning. Since 1910, the Oakland A's as they're most commonly called, the team has won 15 pennants and went on to win nine world titles. The Los Angeles Angels haven't been too happy about their rivals' success. Will they try to take down their in-state rivals this season or will the A's dominate the California teams?

The Oakland Athletics, better known as the A's, are a Major League Baseball team from Oakland, California.  They are in the American League and have distinct yellow and green colors that are not too common in professional sports.  The team has had some ups and down in the past few seasons and have not won a World Series title since 1989, which was the year that the World Series was interrupted by an earthquake.

The team franchise has a lengthy history, going back all the way to 1901 when the team was in Philadelphia.  The team eventually moved to Kansas City and then Oakland in 1968.  The name "athletics" shows their history, as it came from an "athletic club" in Philadelphia at the time where the team got its start.  The team's elephant emblem has a long history, too, dating back to early in the team's history when the owner said he had a "white elephant on his hands."  The team used that name as a mascot, in defiance of the owner.  The elephant can be seen today on the players' jerseys and in the form of the team mascot, Stomper.

The Athletics play their home games at Oakland-Alameda County  Coliseum.  The stadium was built in the early 1960s and opened in 1966.  The NFL Oakland Raiders also play in this stadium.  There have been talks for several years about getting a new stadium for these teams to play in, but none of those plans have yet come to fruition.  In the last few seasons, the team has failed to make the playoffs.  They are hoping that this season will be the chance to turn things around with such players as Ben Sheets and Jerry Blevins.  If you want to visit Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum and see the Athletics play, or get to tickets to their away games throughout the country, visit EventTicketDepot.
