Carlos Santana has been playing guitar and wowing audiences since the 1960s. It is funny, then, that the younger generation knows him best for a song he recorded in 1999, called Smooth, which was a duet with singer Rob Thomas. While many teens and young adults had not even heard of Santana before that, he had already had a tremendous career up to that point.
Santana was born in Mexico and moved to California as a young boy. He started very early in music, learning violin from his violinist father at only age five. By age eight he began to play the guitar and never looked back. In the 1960s he formed a band called Santana, which was rock, salsa, and jazz mixed together. The sound made a lot of sense considering that Santana considered his inspirations to be performers like B.B. King.
The band Santana got its big break when it was asked to perform at Woodstock. Although they were a very unknown band at the time and had not yet even released an album, the concert gave them great fame and attention. The live recordings of the festival further helped their cause as their music was then heard by scores of people for the very first time.
Over the years the band had its ups and downs and Santana decided to do things on his own. This was successful to a point, but his work as a solo artist came to a pinnacle with the release of the album Supernatural in 1999. The album featured duets with other artists, among them Smooth, as mentioned above. The album earned Santana nine Grammy Awards.
There really is no comparison to the sweet guitar sound made by Santana when he performs. If you agree, you should get tickets to see him play in person here on EventTicketDepot.
