St. Louis Cardinals

There aren't a lot of questions to be answered before the St. Louis Cardinals open up the 2010 season. Pitcher Kyle McClellan knows he had a bullpen assignment. Infielder Albert Pujols plans on hitting plenty of home runs this year and already has in the Grapefruit League. Pitcher Chris Carpenter was pretty much assured of claiming a spot in the rotation. The only question left to answer before the start of the season is whether Jaime Garcia will become the fifth starting pitcher. This core group of ballplayers will undoubtedly be tough to beat in the Central Division of the National League.

One of the oldest teams in professional baseball, the St. Louis Cardinals have a wonderful and storied history.  They originally were the St. Louis Brown Stockings way back in 1882 and eventually changed their name to Cardinals in 1900.  Since their inception, the team has won 10 World Series championships, making them the second most successful team in MLB after the New York Yankees.

Having a history of over 100 years means that a team has rivalries that are rooted deep in history, not just in something that happened a few years ago.  The Cardinals are no exception, as their big rivalry with the Chicago Cubs started way back in 1885.  In the World Series that year, you could tell that a rivalry was beginning to form as both teams wanted to take the championship very badly.  Now, more than 120 years later, things still get contentious each time these two teams play.

The Cardinals currently play in Busch Stadium.  That ballpark opened in 2006 and that was the same year that the Cardinals last won the World Series.  They beat the Detroit Tigers that year, much to the chagrin of Tigers fans who have been waiting more than 25 years to see their team win another championship.

One of the great players that the Cardinals have had in the last few years is Albert Pujols, who is their first baseman.  He has a huge fan following, even outside of Cardinal fans and has been repeatedly voted to the All-Star game.  It is through his great play and homerun hitting that the team has been so successful.

If you are a baseball fan, you should really see a game at Busch Stadium.  It is a great newer stadium and has great views from everywhere in the ballpark.  You can get tickets to all the Cardinals home games, in addition to all their away games, right here on EventTicketDepot.
