Styx

Many rock bands in the 1970s and 1980s came from California, Seattle, or the UK.  For that reason, the rock band Styx is very unique because they began in Chicago, Illinois.  That town is known much more for blues and jazz music than the kind of rock music that Styx performs.  Their style was progressive rock with strong ballads on occasion.  Some of their top songs were Come Sail Away and Show Me the Way.

Styx's most popular album came in 1981 with Paradise Theatre.  This album was unique in that it was a concept album that addressed such issues as drug use.  One of their songs, Snowblind, was about the perils of use cocaine.  Despite this, religious groups accused them of making pro-drug messages in the song if you listen to it backwards.  The band has denied this.

Styx has performed in countless festivals over the years, including  the famed Crossroads Guitar Festival, which is put on by Eric Clapton.  Like many rock bands, they have also put out a cover album, including such unexpected hits as I am the Walrus.

After member Davis DeYoung left the band, he did some solo projects and also had success performing some Styx music with a live orchestra in 2005.  The frequency of those types of concerts have increased as many rock fans, as they age, are also gaining an appreciation for classical music.

The current members of Styx are still touring to this day.  They will be performing with other 1980s legends Kansas and Foreigner.   This will be a great lineup for 1980s rock fans who want to hear some of the great songs they loved in their youth.  If you want to see Styx in concert, you can get tickets here on EventTicketDepot.
