Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had a very rough start when they first entered the NFL as an expansion team in 1976. In fact, they lost their first 26 games in the league. Certainly fans in the area were nervous that the team would never be successful. However, after a rough time of it in the 1970s and 1980s, the team did turn things around, much to the relief of the people of Tampa, Florida.
The Buccaneers biggest successes have come in this century, including the team's Super Bowl victory in 2002, in Super Bowl XXXVII. Although the team has stumbled a bit in the last few years, they should be getting back to playoff contention like they were steadily from 1997-2007. The fans are quite loyal and will support their team until they return to their former glory.
The team plays its home games at Raymond James Stadium, which is known throughout the league as a great venue to watch a football game. Nicknamed "Ray Jay," the stadium can seat over 65,000 for football games. With a different configuration, the stadium can seat 75,000 for certain special events. The stadium has hosted concerts and monster jams, in addition to football.
Like the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are named for the famed pirates of yesteryear, known for taking over ships with force. This idea translates to football well, given that the defense is supposed to take the ball by force. The team's logo features a red flag with a white skull. Under the skull are two crisscrossing swords. This logo is quite popular with fans and sales of apparel sell well.
