If you love new wave music, then pack up a picnic basket and head for the Delta Classic Chastain Amphitheater in Atlanta, Georgia this summer. Blondie and The B-52s, two of the genre's most popular acts, will be performing on one stage. The B-52s, as their fans will remember, came from Georgia. They gained notoriety in the 1970s for the lead singers' harmonies, their surf-style guitar-playing, and the "go-go" drumming. Perhaps their most famous song is "Love Shack," which people are still singing along to when they hear it on the radio. And Blondie, with its members Deborah Harry and Chris Stein, actually pioneered punk and new wave music around that same time. You've got two originals performing in a distinguished setting. And there's only one ticket seller that has a distinguished history, too.

Although their formal designation is probably New Wave rock band, the B-52's are best known for just playing extremely fun music. They are not the type of band who takes their music too seriously and really focuses on playing up tempo music that is fun to sing along and dance to. Although they got started in 1976, their music is still played very often to this day. Probably the one song that had the most success for them was Love Shack, which came out in 1989. That song celebrates youth and being wild and having fun. It is no wonder why it has become an anthem for several generations in a row.
The band's original members were Cindy Wilson, Kate Pierson, Ricky Wilson, Keith Strickland and Fred Schneider. The latter is the man whose voice you will hear doing spoken word parts of the songs, like Love Shack. His low voice is unmistakable. When the band first got together Cindy Wilson was just 19 and the others were not much older, which helps explain the youth-oriented lyrics in much of their early music. It was not just a matter of playing to a younger audience, they were just singing what they would like themselves.
In addition to their great, fun music, the band was also well known for their interesting costuming. They used bright colors and most of their clothing seemed like it was from a thrift show rather than at a modern store at a mall. This style of dress really set them apart at the time from acts like Madonna, who were more focused on wearing what every trend was popular at the time. The B-52's style helped spawn some trends of their own and the time and encouraged people to be a bit more individualistic.
The band still tours to this day and if you want to see them in concert you can get tickets right here on EventTicketDepot.
